In this post I will give my own opinion on what capabilities to start with and what ones to use Open Source/Partner Solutions with or to wait for SharePoint 2009.

http://sharepointmagazine.net/news/analysis/leveraging-the-sharepoint-platform-part-2

Developer Tools in Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2008/09/03/developer-tools-in-internet-explorer-8-beta-2.aspx

Content Deployment Problems with MOSS and IIS 7

The preconfigured maximum size of the cab files generated by content deployment is 10 MB as discussed in this article. IIS 7 on the other hand has a preconfigured upload limit of 29 MB as discussed in KB article 925083.

So with these two limits (maximum size of a cab file = 10 MB and maximum upload size in IIS 7 = 29 MB) we would not expect any problems. There are many OOTB DMS templates in MOSS and you could leverage those activities with SharePoint Designer. I had a customer that wanted a process that used the Docx file format for authoring/approving the document and convert it to PDF file format before sending outside of the organization. My first idea was to use the Office 2007 capabilities in converting Word to PDF. You can do it easily in the Save As dialog so coding this shouldn't be a problem ...

http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/adir_ron/archive/2008/08/27/convert-word-to-pdf-inside-a-moss-workflow.aspx

How to get currently logged-in user in workflow

You will always have simple requirement whenever you are working with workflow is to find the currently logged-in user.
It is really frustrating that it is easy to find who is the originator of the workflowproperties but you cannot find who is currently logged in user from workflowproperties even you have properties available.

http://www.sharepointkings.com/2008/08/how-to-get-currently-logged-in-user-in.html

How to deploy a page layout with all the bells and whistles

If you have ever had anything to do with a MOSS publishing site then you are familiar with page layouts. Basically the usual way to deploy these to a site collection is through a feature that will put your ASP files into the master page gallery. One thing I have noticed is that when this gets done there are usually some pretty easy to do things that tend to get over looked that will make your page layouts look to fit in a bit more with the out of the box ones, things like thumbnails and descriptions. So I thought I would put this together to show you how you can deploy a page layout with these things.

http://pointstoshare.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!AEC42F315B4528B0!2991.entry

SharePoint Server 2007 et SharePoint Services Software Development Kits 1.4

MOSS SDK 1.4 (29/08/2008)

The Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SDK contains conceptual overviews, “How Do I…?” programming tasks, developer tools, code samples, references, and an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) starter kit to guide you in developing solutions based on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6D94E307-67D9-41AC-B2D6-0074D6286FA9&displaylang=en

WSS SDK 1.4 (28/08/2008)

The Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 software development kit (SDK) contains conceptual overviews, programming tasks, samples, and references to guide you in developing solutions based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=05E0DD12-8394-402B-8936-A07FE8AFAFFD&displaylang=en

SharePoint: Les liens de la semaine 34 (18-24 août 2008)

Parce qu'il n'est pas possible d'écrire sur tous les sujets et que d'autres le font très bien, voici une sélection de lectures parues cette semaine...

Video: PowerPoint 2007 SharePoint Slide Libraries

PowerPoint 2007 SharePoint Slide Libraries are a powerful new tool for Microsoft Office users who create frequent presentations and need to make changes on a frequent basis. In this video I provide an overview of their function and demonstrate the following scenarios:

Creating a slide library

Publishing content to a slide library

Consuming content from a slide library

Updating and synching content that originated in a slide library

http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/mikeg/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?List=1b3bbb8f%2D4b5a%2D4f72%2D94c4%2D94cb80bc3866&ID=1191

Using InfoPath Browser forms as a Development Platform – Best Practices and Recommendations

... I got the notion that many times developers tend to dismiss the fact that InfoPath is actually a full development platform and should definitely be treated as one. This is even especially important once you decided to add managed code and combine it with Visual Studio 2005/2008. Given concepts and best practices that we use in every development process are totally overlooked when you use InfoPath – and we're talking about important and time saving things like naming convections, data access layers etc.

http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/adir_ron/archive/2008/08/20/using-infopath-browser-forms-as-a-development-platform-best-practices-and-recommendations.aspx

[AVIS] Le paradoxe SharePoint : Gouvernance or not ?

http://blogs.codes-sources.com/themit/archive/2008/08/20/avis-le-paradoxe-sharepoint-gouvernance-or-not.aspx

Why Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 might interest SharePoint developers ...

One of the reasons why Dynamics AX 2009 might be of interesting to SharePoint Developers is the Enterprise Portal functionality. Enterprise Portal in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 is built on ASP.net/AJAX, it uses Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and provides full power and flexibility to developers to build real , modern , interactive and responsive web applications for intranet, extranet and internet scenarios.
Due to the release schedule of this product, and the fact we have a very short feedback window, we would love to hear from our targeted community members.
